Freezing Temps Are Coming. Is Your Home Ready?

Need Reliable Plumbing Solutions? Get Expert Tips Now!

Freezing temperatures are forecasted to head our way next week and we want to make sure your home or business are ready.

When the temperature drops below freezing there’s always the potential for your water lines to freeze. If this happens the pipes could burst and you could possibly be faced with having to repair water damage to your home, on top of plumbing repair cost. Check out our Sugar Land plumbers’ freeze checklist below to help you prepare!

Outdoor faucet cover

Freeze Preparation Checklist

  • Wrap all exposed faucets and pipes, including hose bibs and all other pipes outside the home or in unheated attic space, garages, etc. with pipe insulation.
  • Disconnect outdoor hoses, drain them and store in a protected area.
  • If your irrigation system has a backflow preventer turn the device off, drain remaining water, then insulate and waterproof the device.
  • Leave cabinet doors open that contain pipes that are located on outside walls of home. This will allow the room heat to keep the pipes warmer.
  • If the temperature stays below freezing for an extended period of time you may be required to turn the water off to your house and drain the system.

If Your Pipes Do Freeze

  • Turn off the water at the main shut-off valve so that you don’t have a problem as the ice melts.
  • You can try to use a blow dryer to thaw frozen pipes.
  • Don’t ever use a blow torch to try to unfreeze pipes, it is too dangerous!
  • Call Doug Turner Plumbing Co. for fast and reliable frozen pipe repair in Sugar Land.
